Amendis participates in the "2019 World Water Week"

“World Water Week” (WWWeek) is the annual focal point for global water and development issues. This forum organized by “Stockholm International Water Institute” (SIWI) held from 25 to 30 August 2019 and gathered thousand of government representatives, private sector, multilateral organizations, civil society and academics in order to find solutions to current challenges related to water. This year theme was “Water for society-Including all”.

Since 2014, Veolia, WWWeek's official partner, has participated in the roundtables and seminars in order to share its experience and offer solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

On Thursday, August 29th, Naoufal Salama, Water and Sanitation Studies Manager at Amendis (Morocco), took part in two sessions:

Session 2: “Water governance with and for all: is it working ?”, Thursday 29 August, 11:00-12:30

During this session, Naoufal Salama mentioned the importance of the National Initiative for Human Development launched by the Kingdom in promoting access to potable water in Morocco. With its social connections Program launched in 2002, Amendis intended to meet this challenge of generalization of access to potable water and liquid sanitation in the region of Tangiers.

He also underlined the paramount nature of “the clarity of roles in access to water”. In the case of Tangiers,  the local officials’ involvement enables dialogue with the citizens, the operator manages the performances and the NGOs accompany the newly connected populations.

"SIWI Sofa" Session: “Is the last mile delivery secured ?”, Thursday 29 August, 15:00-15:30

Alongside Frédéric Certain, Managing Director of Interagua - Veolia Ecuador, Naoufal Salama recalled his experience in Tangiers: “When our contract started, access to potable water supply was 72%, and the little wastewater collected was discharged without treatment.”

Today, while the Amendis’ Program enabled to achieve an access rate of more than 99% of the population in 2018 , priority is given to ‘the efficiency of the organisation and the transparency in delivery.”
