On 31 July 2019, took place the African Women's Day. This year's theme, "Celebrating the partial victories", aimed to shed light on the path of inspiring African women.
On this occasion, the Société d'Exploitation des Eaux du Niger (SEEN), Veolia's subsidiary, honored the women of the Bonfereye Group in Kahé, a village located 20 kilometres south of Niamey.
These women practise organic market gardening on SEEN's vegetable garden and sell fruits and vegetables to the subsidiary's employees. Thanks to their production, they can have a certain degree of financial autonomy which is significant at a time when a very high number of Nigerien women still live below the poverty line. This initiative also benefits SEEN's employees who can buy organic fruits and vegetables at very reasonable prices.
The Vegetable garden project is part of a social and environmental responsibility program of SEEN which is also very involved in L'Oasis of Niamey project that aims, in the first place, to support women's economic integration though entrepreneurship.
