OKD is an European hard coal player operating 4 underground mines at more than 10 sites with the objective to:
- Ensure the supply of energies and mediums for the operation of the sites for 20 years (~800 GWh electricity, ~1 000 TJ heat, 2 billion m3 compressed air, 25 mil m3 of nitrogen, 50 000 MWh of cold, all per year)
- Guarantee the quality and availability of the energies and mediums distribution
- Increase the safety of the operation of energy facilities
Veolia concluded a contract with OKD and bought energetic assets. The result is a 20-year commitment to energies and mediums supply. The scope of supplies falls within the scope of Veolia’s activities:
- Increase in generation efficiency through Veolia’s knowledges
- Increase in generation possibilities of facilities by replacing the cogeneration with a tri-generation plant, improving the compressor network and using waste heat for heating, building a cogeneration and using heat for heating)
- Excess capacity of compressed air generation used for nitrogen production
Customer benefits:
- Client can focus on core business
- Guarantee of savings (variable, fixed) and efficiency sharing
- Improvement in energies and mediums supply => Reduction of the number of breaks => Improvement in safety of mining activities
- Use of Veolia’s know-how to address its difficulty
- New technologies implementation (cold production, nitrogen production from the spare capacity of compressed air generation)
