France
The need to decommission rolling stock presents a huge technical and environmental challenge. There are very few companies able to offer the full range of required expertise, including logistics, dismantling, asbestos removal, recovery of materials for recycling and non-recyclable waste processing.

Florange mine site is a sub-surface iron mine that was closed. Ground water evacuation from the mines was stopped after its closure, resulting in increased salinity and sulphate concentration. In 1997, the authorities concluded that the mine tunnels in the North basin (old iron ore mining area) should be flooded for safety reasons. But this flooding created a challenge for ArcelorMittal because it would cause physico-chemical changes to the mine water (conductivity increase, sulphate composition, etc.) being used. Consequently, ArcelorMittal needed to find a contractor to upgrade their water treatment plant.
United Kingdom
Abandoned mines fill with water, once operational pumping comes to an end and the high acidity of the water, brings other toxic metals in solution. At Wheal Jane, this resulted in the Nangiles Adit overflowing in 1992, resulting in major pollution of the Fal Estuary. The contaminated mine water (AMD) laden with heavy metals flow poured into the Carnon River and the Fal Estuary, which is a huge environmental issue.

Ghana
Water is key in the mining industry and used within a broad range of activities including mineral processing, dust suppression, slurry transport and employee needs. Veolia, through its subsidiary Veolia Ghana Limited, operates and maintains the existing water treatment facility at Iduapriem, Ghana, and supplies process optimization. The mine is located in the Western Region of Ghana.
Morocco
A survey of the cities of Tangiers and Tetouan, conducted by Amendis in conjunction with the Awarding Authority, identified 66,000 households lacking in clean water and sewage infrastructure. These households are spread across 277 neighborhoods. The population, estimated at 330,000 inhabitants, had no access to clean water and wastewater was discharged directly into the natural surroundings.
Morocco
The cities of Rabat and Temara, with an estimated population of 1.5 million, were emptying their wastewater directly onto the Atlantic coast and the banks of the Bouregreg Wadi. This was doing serious harm to the environment and the region’s bathing waters. The waste also emitted odors that affected public health and harmed the appearance of the Atlantic coast and the banks of the estuary.

Ethiopia
The objective of the project was to improve the health of the Addis Ababa residents by enhancing water supply and sanitation services via increasing water supply availability and reliability, and by improving its quality.
Kenya
The water supply and sanitation situation in Kenya is poor. Only 57% of households are using water from sources considered safe while sanitation coverage on a country level is estimated at 50%. Within the Coast region, the Coast Water Services Board (CWSB) is mandated with the responsibility of efficient and economical provision of water and sanitation services. Following the outcome of previous studies recommending a focus on Mombasa city, including the delivery of services to informal settlements, CWSB contracted Seureca to undertake wide technical assistance consultancy services.
Kenya
The Kisumu Water Supply and Sanitation Project took place in two phases. The emergency works aimed at alleviating the current acute water shortage within the Kisumu City jurisdiction. The long term action plan then covered the expansion of the water supply and sanitation component to meet the current and future water and sewage service provision needs in Kisumu city, Kenya’s third largest urban area.
Cameroon
In line with the United Nation Millennium Development Goal (MDG), Cameroon authorities are working towards upgrading the water infrastructures countrywide to improve water coverage. To structure an investment program suited to the populations’ needs, Camwater, the public company in charge of the country water assets, launched a Water Urban Master Plan awarded to Seureca for 137 cities – 3/4 of the country urban and peri-urban water services.
